Preparing for Your Wedding Day Portraits

Your wedding day will fly by in the blink of an eye—but the portraits we capture will allow you to relive those moments forever. Whether we’re creating dreamy couple shots, stunning bridal portraits, or heartfelt family images, here’s how you can prepare to get the most out of your wedding day photography experience.

1. Schedule Time for Portraits in Your Timeline

Wedding days are full of moving parts, so it’s important to carve out intentional time for portraits.

Here’s what we usually recommend:

  • 30–45 minutes for couple portraits (golden hour is ideal if possible!)

  • 20–30 minutes for bridal party photos

  • 20–30 minutes for family photos (group list prepared in advance—more on that below!)

💡 Tip: Add a 10–15 minute buffer so you’re never feeling rushed. We’ll help you build a photography-friendly timeline that flows beautifully.

2. Gather & Prepare Details Ahead of Time

If you’d like beautiful flat-lay photos of your wedding details, have these ready when I arrive:

  • Rings (all three!)

  • Invitations, save-the-dates, or vow books

  • Perfume, accessories, shoes, tie, cufflinks, boutonniere, bouquet

  • Heirlooms or any meaningful keepsakes

Have everything in one spot so we can start photographing right away without having to track anything down.

3. Keep the Getting-Ready Space Tidy & Well-Lit

Wherever you’re getting ready—whether it’s a bridal suite, hotel room, or your childhood home—try to keep the space free of clutter (bags, food, random water bottles). Natural light is a photographer’s best friend, so we’ll aim to shoot near windows or open spaces.

4. Have a Family Shot List Ready

Make a list of the family combinations you’d like captured during formal portraits, and assign a point person (someone who knows both sides of the family) to help round people up. This keeps things smooth and stress-free, especially with larger families!

5. Trust the Process & Be Present

You don’t have to be a model—just be you. I’ll guide you through natural posing and candid moments. Some of the best photos come from real emotions: the laughter, the happy tears, the quiet in-between moments.

So breathe, relax, and let yourselves feel it all. Your love story will shine through.

6. Consider a First Look (Optional, But Beautiful)

If you're open to it, a first look not only creates a powerful, emotional moment between the two of you, but also allows us to capture more portraits before the ceremony, which can free up time later for you to enjoy your cocktail hour!

7. Be Prepared for Weather (Just in Case!)

If your day includes outdoor portraits, have a backup plan or a couple of cute umbrellas handy—just in case! Some of the most romantic shots happen in the rain, and I’m always ready to make it work beautifully no matter what the skies are doing.

Final Thought: This Day is About You

No matter what happens—tight timelines, a little wind in your veil, or an emotional moment—you are marrying the love of your life. That joy will be reflected in every photo we take. Trust me to capture the magic, and just enjoy your day to the fullest.
