How to Prepare for Your Family or Couples Photoshoot
Whether you're capturing the joy of your growing family or celebrating love with your partner, your session is all about real connection, laughter, and those in-between moments you’ll cherish forever. Here’s how to get the most out of your session:
1. Choose Outfits That Complement (Not Match!)
Coordinating outfits in soft, neutral tones or warm earth colors photograph beautifully. Avoid being too “matchy-matchy”—instead, think about layering textures, mixing subtle patterns, and creating a cohesive palette across the group.
Some tips:
-
Stick to three or four colors that work well together
-
Avoid logos, bold graphics, or neon colors
-
Flowy dresses, denim, knits, and linen always photograph beautifully!
If you're not sure what to wear, I’m always happy to help you style your session.
2. Make It a Fun Experience for the Whole Family
If kids are involved, let them know this is a fun adventure, not a chore. Try not to stress if they’re wiggly, silly, or a little shy—that’s all part of the magic. I’ll guide you through the session with prompts and play to keep things lighthearted and fun!
3. Come Ready to Move and Connect
This isn’t about stiff poses—it’s about genuine connection. Be ready to laugh, cuddle, dance, play, and just be yourselves. I’ll guide you every step of the way, but the best photos happen when you’re simply present in the moment.
4. Timing & Lighting
Most outdoor sessions are scheduled during golden hour—that dreamy window right after sunrise or before sunset—for the most flattering natural light. If we’re shooting indoors, I’ll help choose the best time based on light in your space.
5. Pack the Essentials (Just in Case!)
-
Water and snacks, especially for little ones
-
Comfortable shoes (or slip-on shoes for walking between spots)
-
Touch-up items like lip balm, hairbrush, tissues
-
A blanket or neutral-colored wrap can be great for cozy sitting shots
-
6. Don’t Stress the Small Stuff
If someone’s hair is out of place or the kids are a little wild—don’t worry. Some of the most beautiful images come from the unexpected. Your only job is to show up, love on each other, and trust that I’ve got the rest covered.
